One of the considerations in switching from PC to Mac was the ability to run a Windows VM for Visual Studio development while still getting decent battery life and solid Windows performance.
After some extensive research and a 14 day trial run, I was sold on Parallels. Windows 7 performance was actually better than the two year old i5 PC I was replacing. The deep integration with OSX became more and more apparent as I got used to the new shortcuts and other Apple conventions. I don't use the application sharing, but the folder sharing is seamless and eliminates the need for me to run any backup software on my VM since Time Machine will pick it up by default.
The only real issue I have encountered, and this is no fault of Parallels, is the way Windows handles the Retina display. Most newer apps look great, but older ones scale with varying degrees of success. This problem only gets worse when using a non-retina external monitor though Windows 8 handles this better than 7. I only capitalize that because the Parallels website doesn't have much information about Linux support though the Amazon description does.

I'm taking a statistics class that required me to download and use a software program called minitab that only operates on Windows and of course; I no longer own a PC and installing software to do school work on my office laptop was not something I intended to do.
I really hemmed and hawed about partitioning my MacBook pro and at one point, had the crazy idea that maybe I should just buy a laptop for the purpose of taking this one class. My 1 issue with VMware was that once installed, I consistently had issues connecting to the internet - something I absolutely needed to do for my class. Thankfully, a friend of mine turned me on to the Parallels software and I'm so glad I made this purchase.
I'm not at all tech savvy but installation of this software, followed by Windows purchased separately , was a piece of cake; I didn't even have to call my dad for help :. Running Windows on my MacBook is super easy and I have no problems at all connecting to the internet, which means less time spent troubleshooting and more time spent studying! Very satisfied with this purchase! What more to say?

Setting up Parallels Desktop is a breeze. Parallels will then install a copy of Windows or Linux in about the same amount of time that it would take to make a fresh install of Windows on a PC. The Transporter feature guides you through the whole setup process, asking you if you'd like to be able to share files between different operating systems and use external devices amongst other things.
It also makes sure that the virtual machine is setup correctly for the operating system you are installing thanks to pre-configurations that have already been set. One thing to note is that by running an operating system in a virtual environment such as Parallels, you don't have to worry about viruses as much. Any viruses will be restricted to the virtual environment that Windows operates in and won't affect your machine in any way.
However, it's still a good idea to install a virus monitoring tool to keep your virtual environment clean but if you do encounter serious problems, you can simply reinstall Windows at any time. Hope to have time this weekend to give it a try. What is really disappointing looking forward is the very poor support to date for virtualizing macOS Parallels and Fusion. Once Apple drops making Intel versions of macOS, unless there is a major improvement in macOS VMs AS support, if you need to do software testing, are we back to the days of having to keep actual mac hardware around with different macOSs installed?
Multiboot on one mac is not really an option because you really need concurrent access to your working environment and the testing environment, for quick testing and feedback. Derekcurrie Dec 3 The current version is Sorry paranoids! It works fine, no crashing or security concerns evident. I'm running old Windows x86 Intel software, including games, at decent speeds. Microsoft's x86 emulator is reasonable. I've had no troubles adjusting to Windows 11 changes.
